Buffy the Vampire Slayer remains one of the most innovative, progressive shows ever written. It presented a well-rounded female lead in Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy Summers, as well as a fantastic supporting cast of characters. From the various members of the Scooby Gang to the monsters of the week, there are countless storylines to excite, terrify, and intrigue audiences. There’s a reason the show lasted for seven seasons. Joss Whedon and the rest of the creative voices behind the scenes created characters we could root for and villains we could understand....

Apple went over its Q2 2014 earnings today on its quarterly conference call with CEO Tim Cook and incoming CFO Luca Maestri. The company announced that former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts will finally be joining the executive team as SVP of Retail. Cook also addressed the recent debut of Microsoft’s Office productivity suite on the iPad. But, as with any earnings call, the numbers that define Apple’s success or failure in the market took center stage....

Vine co-founder Dom Hoffman has announced that his long-promised replacement app, Byte, is finally in beta-testing. Hoffman first revealed that he was working on the idea back in November 2017, a little over a year after Vine was shutdown by Twitter … Vine first launched in June 2012 as an app to allow users to share looping 6-second videos. It quickly took off, and was acquired by Twitter a few months later for a reported $30M....

In the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe, one is not born a vampire. They are sired– that is, transformed into a vampire by being bitten by one. In season 2, Wesley Wyndham-Pryce explained that after being bitten, the victims would “reawaken on the night after the siring.” But that rebirth changes former human’s personalities, turning them violent and creating a thirst for other victims. Each of the main vampires on the show were completely different pre-siring from their distinct and often destructive personalities....

The iPhone 13 lineup is finally here, and it comes at the same prices as the last generation depending on where you are. As reported last week, iPhone 13 prices can go up to almost $3,000 in some countries. Now a new Money SuperMarket research shows how many hours (or months) people need to work to buy the brand-new iPhone 13 in different regions around the world. Instead of just considering the full price of the devices in each country, the research is based on how long someone needs to work to afford an iPhone 13 (the 128GB version)....

While most of the eager attendees at the recent PAX East Gearbox Studios conference were likely there to catch a glimpse at the latest entry in the Borderlands franchise, Borderlands 3, one of the other big announcements of the day was the upcoming Borderlands tabletop game. This isn’t quite the usual Borderlands fare, but it’s interesting to see one of the many directions in which the franchise is evolving. With the announcement of Borderlands VR getting all the existing DLC for the game this summer and the Handsome Collection getting a bunch of graphics quality updates for those who already own it, the Borderlands tabletop game announcement is the icing on the cake for series fans....

Lenovo’s Yoga 3 Pro convertible laptop–which uses the same Broadwell Core M processor as Apple’s new ultraportable MacBook–has provided the first look at its likely performance. AnandTech‘s numbers show that in overall performance terms, the Yoga 3 Pro was delivering a little over 90% of the performance of the early 2014 MacBook Air which has far fewer pixels than the Retina MacBook… There are a large number of variables beyond the CPU itself that can impact on benchmark scores, so the score should be viewed as a ballpark rather than an exact measure, but it does reinforce my view that this is a machine for the typical base-level MacBook Air customer....

Brightburn had a pretty weak opening at the box office, but that doesn’t mean it’s a commercial failure. Officially announced in 2018, the new film from producer James Gunn looks to put a fresh spin on the superhero genre. It clearly mines inspiration from the classic Superman origin story, only imagining what it would be like if Clark Kent was destined to be evil instead of a savior. Many critics felt it was a suitably creepy genre mashup, but didn’t explore its premise as fully as it could have....

For years, Hollywood has been attempting to get a modern adaptation of the classic Jules Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea off the ground. For a while, David Fincher was attached to direct such a project, but the film was canceled in the summer of 2013 for a variety of reasons, including scheduling conflicts and a whopping $200 million budget. But the movie’s hopes of reaching the big screen didn’t die when Fincher departed....

iPad sales have been declining for so long now that it was almost a jolt to finally see some good news for the tablet in Apple’s numbers. In the past quarter, iPad sales were not only up, but by a substantial margin: up 15% year-on-year. The stock market sent Apple shares soaring to new highs based at least partly on the news. The company doesn’t provide any breakdown of models, but as analysts have noted, there was rather a large clue …...

Fans of the hit TV drama Breaking Bad got to relive some of the show’s epic, enthralling moments with the recent release of El Camino: A Breaking Bad story on Netflix. The film somewhat plays out like a huge, action-filled episode of the show, which follows our downtrodden protagonist, Jesse Pinkman, in the aftermath of Walt’s drug empire collapsing and the defeat of Jack’s gang. Seven years after the last proper Borderlands adventure, this latest entry in the saga proves Gearbox is as committed to FPS action as RPG mechanics. Back in 2009, Gearbox first unleashed Borderlands upon an unsuspecting public. El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie will play in theaters for one weekend in October. After being off the air for more than five years, the Breaking Bad story is set to continue with a feature film following Jesse Pinkman after the events of the series finale. Produced under a shroud of secrecy akin to a Marvel or Star Wars movie, El Camino wasn’t even officially confirmed until late August, when a teaser trailer revealed it would premiere on Netflix this fall....

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz really wants to play She-Hulk. The actress has portrayed the 99th precinct’s resident “tough guy”, Detective Rosa Diaz, since the sitcom’s pilot. The show is currently heading into season 7. Although she already has experience playing a heroic character, it would seem Beatriz is prepared to add “superhero” to her resume as well. It was announced at this year’s D23 that She-Hulk is getting her own Disney+ series....
