AV cable stands for audio video cable and is used to connect the audio and video features to any electronics device. AV cables have different types on basis of different features and requirements. AV cables are divided in different types on the following basis:

Number of audio channelsNumber of video channelsNumber of power signals

AV cables are used to connect the display devices like television sets, TV with the audio and video features. After analyzing the signals, they are transmitted to AV cable which is further sent to TV connector. AV cable can transmit both sound and video, so it has two wires in a cable and are connected to two channels of the TV.

Types of AV cables:

There are several types of AV cables, few of them are given as under:

RCA AV cableCoaxial AV cableS-video cableVGA AV cableDVI AV cableHDMI AV cable

RCA AV cable:

RCA cable stands for radio corporation of America cable, it is one of the oldest used AV cables but is also used in present days. RCA AV cables were manufactured and introduced in the year 1940 and are used not only in TV sets but it is used in many other electronic devices as well. The other devices in which RCA type of AV cables are used include game consoles, cable boxes and DVD players. RCA cable is not given much importance in present because it cannot accept HD signal. The RCA cable contains three types of wires used for three different outputs. The red wire is used to transmit audio signal and is inserted in right channel used for audio, second wire which is white in color is also used for audio signal and is inserted in left audio channel, the third wire that is yellow in color is used for transmitting video and is inserted in another channel of TV. For a better performance all three wires of cable must be inserted properly in the device because if any of the wire will not be fixed properly the customer will face bad video display as well as worst sound experience.

Coaxial AV cable:

The coaxial cables are also used to transmit audio and video signals. These types of cables are mostly used in cable boxes in cable industries. It is used in industries because the function of this cable is to transmit signals from cable suppliers to cable box.

If a customer wants to use internet service, then coaxial AV cable can provide you the service of transmitting cable internet from the service providers to your modem which will be further connected to your TV set.

S-Video cable:

The S-video cable is only utilized in transmitting video signals. This cable does not uses HDMI which is the main reason of S-video cable for not enhancing the image qualities.

VGA AV Cable:

VGA stands for video graphics array, it is used to transmit video from one device like computer or laptop to another device such as TV or monitors. VGA cable has options to display both high and low resolutions. The signals that VGA accept are analog signals. As compared to HDMI and DVI cables VGA AV cable is less efficient in displaying high resolution images. The port of VGA cable is present in almost all computers since the year 1990 so the monitor of your computers can be utilized very well for displaying the videos on it, VGA connected through monitor can even reduce the need of HDMI and DVI cables.

DVI AV cable:

DVI stands for digital video interface, it uses the technology that is almost similar to HDMI technology and is used for displaying high resolution videos and images on your TV or monitor. The display through DVI cable is even more efficient in displaying higher resolution images or videos than VGA cable. The VGA cable cannot transmit sound signals, it is only used to transmit video signals. If a customer wants to use audio along with video then he/she can use 3.5mm audio cable connected form computer to the display device.

HDMI AV cable:

HDMI stands for high definition multimedia interface, it can be used to transmit HD video and audio signals from any device to the display devices like TV sets or monitors. HDMI cable is able to transmit 720 pixels and 1080 pixels audio and video signals. HDMI can also be configured with ethernet to provide networking services. There are several types of HDMI cables used according to the resolutions of display devices because if display device will accept the signals with those resolutions then HDMI cable signals will prove to be effective otherwise not.

Conclusion:

If you want to use AV cables in your TV sets you need to identify the ports for that in the display device/TV. High grade electronics components can have AV ports but low scale TV sets or smaller electronic devices does not support the AV ports.
