Bruce Campbell recently dismissed the rumor that his iconic horror character, Ash, will appear in DLC for Mortal Kombat 11. The fighting game, developed by NetherRealm Studios, recently released with mostly positive reviews, as well as leaks that hinted at upcoming guest characters that will get added to the game through DLC, which prompted rumors such as the ones that speculated on Ash’s arrival.

Campbell most recently brought the character of Ash back to life with Starz’ Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series. However, after three seasons, Starz decided to cancel the show. As a result, Campbell decided to hang up Ash’s chainsaw hand forever and announced that he would no longer portray the character he initially made famous in the 1981 cult horror film Evil Dead. It seems, though, that Campbell has only retired his live-action version of Ash: after the cancellation of Ash vs. Evil Dead, he announced that he would reprise Ash for an upcoming Evil Dead video game, although no further details have been revealed. Campbell will also reprise Ash for the multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight.

Recently, rumors also surfaced that Mortal Kombat 11 would add Campbell’s Ash to its lineup of guest characters in a piece of future DLC. However, Campbell took to Twitter to denounce that rumor almost as quickly as it had begun, and Ash will not appear in the title. Campbell’s tweet features the actor’s trademark sense of humor, as well as a decent bit of Photoshop skill:

In the meantime, Mortal Kombat 11 fans are getting some patches and updates to improve their gaming experience, especially after players complained about the difficulty in clearing character towers, as well as other minor bugs and glitches. A recent update rewards players who continue to stick with a game that some feel is too focused on requiring microtransactions to grind appropriately.

It’s certainly a shame, and is sure to be a disappointment to fans who wanted to see Ash turn up in Mortal Kombat 11, as the character would certainly fit in. However, for those fans needing more of their favorite horror movie actor, Campbell’s fans still get to follow him on social media, where he’s actively trolling Avengers: Endgame fans, as well as teasing new projects he has in the works. Players will also eventually get DLC with more characters to play, but it is unfortunate that NetherRealm hasn’t listened to fans’ demands for fun characters such as Ash or Ultra Instinct Shaggy.
