A new trailer is released for Brahms: The Boy 2, which is scheduled to be released in February. It’s a sequel to The Boy, one of the many movies to feature a creepy doll as the source of dread. Brahms stars Katie Holmes, Owain Yeoman, Christopher Convery, and Ralph Ineson. William Brent Bell, who directed the original, in addition to several other titles in the horror genre, is returning behind the camera. Stacey Menear is also back for the follow-up, having wrote the screenplay for the first film. The sequel is one of many horror films due out in 2020.
Unaware of its chilling legacy, which very much involves Brahms, a couple moves into a guest house on the estate of Heelshire Mansion. The couple’s young son, Jude (Convery), soon finds the lifelike doll buried and looking fairly uninviting. Jude takes the doll home with him nonetheless, developing an attachment to the seemingly inanimate object. As Jude’s mother, Liza (Holmes) has doubts about her son’s new friend. She’s unable to shake the feeling of something being not quite right. A new glimpse at the sequel wastes no time in establishing the fact that Liza’s maternal instincts should have been heeded.
In the new trailer for Brahms: The Boy 2, we get some insight into what drove Liza to accept the toy at first. Despite her misgivings, Jude seems happy. But as the atmosphere continues to grow unsafe, with Liza’s warnings dismissed, it might be too late to stop whatever dastardly plans the doll has already begun to put in motion. The trailer also suggests that Jude might be as much of a victim as those around him, as opposed to a corrupted accomplice. Check it out for yourself, from STX Entertainment, below.
The first film, released in 2016, starred Lauren Cohan and Rupert Evans. It was a financial success, making $64 million against a budget of $10 million. Critically, the response was more mixed. Some reviews found fault with the familiar plot and abundance of jump scares, although genre websites and even mainstream publications considered the film to be underrated.
The coming year will see a wide variety of scary stories play out on the big screen. Fresh installments of A Quiet Place and Saw are anticipated, as well as arthouse offerings, and a slate of releases from Blumhouse. That slate includes The Invisible Man, with Elizabeth Moss in the lead, and Fantasy Island. Aficionados of deadly dolls won’t have to wait long for a narrative to fit their tastes, however. Brahms: The Boy 2 will be in theaters on February 21.
